CAMOUFLAGE: THE GOOD AND NOT SO GOOD ABOUT “HIDING OUT”!

There is a wonderful little Burrowing Owl that is residing close to a pathway at a Conservancy I am a volunteer docent. You don’t notice him due to his color and quiet camouflage against the sand, light stones, and sticks all around his small hole home. I snapped a quick photo of him and created the above art. Only his head swivels from time to time taking in all around.

This owl is a master at blending into his environment. Do you have an animal that also uses the environment of closets, under the bed and drapes, a variety of hiding spots in your home?

The difference between the wild ones doing this and our domestic fur folks is quite profound. Strength of “who” one is and knowing how to use one’s environment for safety and being “under the radar” to both hunt and be protected is seen in the owl’s courage to be in the open yet blend in. A domestic pet has many other reasons to “hide out”, most of which are based on fear, the opposite of courage.

I have one of these “Houdini” fur folks who are fearful of people due his quite traumatic kitten hood. Hiding is the “go to” behavior for this most loving, gracious, little one. He was a rescue kitten, almost starved to death, yet when being captured rose to the occasion to protect his two little brothers. Yes, he does have huge courage!

How can you turn fear and “hiding” into open courage and trust?

For some it is a long journey to come out of hiding after pretty tough beginnings or abuse. Just like human folks…it takes some time and lots of love.

The downside of “hiding” and not coming out to see people, not coming when called to come out is obvious. In home or environmental emergencies these animals are left behind. A very sad thing to have to do in order for a person and others to be safe due to emergency. When you want to travel…makes it tough for pet sitters and you as well…stress over feeding, knowing all is well while you are gone. Plus, the little fur folks are missing out of a lot of fun and sharing of love!

To begin with, a person can help their fur folks with TOUCH, TALKING TO THEM, and LOVING THOUGHTS, accepting them just the way they are. Try it out. Just sit, wait for them to feel safe, offer play, and hold them (even if they squirm to be released). If they are young, wear a large t-shirt or sweatshirt, wrap them into your shirt, carry them around, let them see all is good and safe. The last thing little scared fur folks need is for you to just “wait” for them to come to you…you go snatch them up, hug them close, tell them, show them, they are safe and loved!

Check them out for “blockages” in the energy that circulates through their bodies. Maybe they need some chiropractic adjustments, some pressure point or acupuncture smoothing out? Could they be hurting physically and needing to protect themselves?

Find out what they require in Flower Essences. These non-herbal tinctures help harmonize the baggage of fear and non-trust when you give them appropriately. For my little fur ball…he is finally coming out and seeing some pretty nice people who come to play with him now. It has taken a year and a half with Essences, patience, and he is now a closer observer to those who come into the house.

Nature provides camouflage for its critters for all sorts of reasons. Domestic animals do not benefit from “hiding out”. Never give up on those “Houdini” animals that for many not so great reasons, hide out in their homes…give tons of love to them and they WILL eventually come out to play and get hugs.

Give me a call and let’s figure out some ways to bring them out into the open, making both fur and non fur folk more in harmony and joy!

STAY AT HOME VACATIONS FOR YOUR FUR FOLKS!
(Includes option of fur folk help with “packing”)

It’s springtime and the classic time for folks to start traveling, going on adventures, searching for some R&R. When you have fur loves, those vacation plans have an extra responsibility to accommodate your pets as you find your own spaces and places. This article is about “what to do” if you have to leave your fur folks at home as you travel.

You need some “rest from it all”, a nice break from the routine and everyday. That can cause a bit of stress for your pets as you say “bon voyage”. They very much need to know where you are going, doing, when you are leaving and when you are coming home to them! Trust me, they miss you and they miss their normal routines.

The very BEST thing you can do is to keep your pets in their familiar home environment as you travel. Some fur folks are OK with boarding at great kennels, pet holiday place. If you are already taking your dog (not cat!)  at a regular schedule to a day care situation, and the facility offers “overnights”…then they are used to this space and that is wonderful for vacation time for both of you. If your fur folk is used to just their home sweet home, then you really would do best by having them stay at home with a professional pet sitter coming to your aid!

Pets do get lonely, they miss you, and their routines…here are a few tips on what to look for when getting some help in to take care of your fur folks as you leave!

1. INTERVIEW: Get your pet and person together, see if the chemistry is fine before you hand over your key and loved one. Spend time with your helper…even if you have used their services before. Things change for both animal and helper…make sure all are AOK with each other and you too!

2. LISTS: Make sure your “helper” is a pro with animals…or if you have a friend coming over to help with food and walks, cat boxes, playtime, etc…make sure these folks show up on YOUR timeline, your outline. Be specific on when to come, when to walk…when to feed, how to feed,…this is your pet’s schedule that needs to be honored. Make two lists for your helper. First a list with YOUR away information of “where you are”, how to get a hold of you, emergency numbers, when you are coming home, and where all the important switches, codes, shut offs, to your home for the “just in case” stuff.  The second list is YOUR PET’S needs; food and amounts, extra supplements, brushing, petting, playing, habits, toys, beds, locations to “find” them if they are shy fur folks. Where and when they like to walk, what they love and what they fear. All the vet info as well, AND, give them an official sign off for them to take your love in for help if need be. Call your vet and tell them you are leaving for a bit and “so and so” are in charge of your pet…give them a name!

3. ASK FOR A WRITTEN SHORT REPORT EACH DAY: Your helper needs to jot down some notes for you while you are away…quick notes on feeding, walking, cat box stuff, pet “attitudes”, etc. And, if you wish…ask them for a mid vacation note, text, email on “how things are going.

4. FLOWER ESSENCES HELP: There are many uses for calming separation, loneliness, anxiety, mild depression, and just plain “missing you” emotions that you can employ for your pet as you leave. A custom “read” for what is needed is great due to you can get exactly what your pet will need to be a bit more comfortable while you are gone.  If you can not do a read here are some suggestions: Honeysuckle (used for homesick fur folks), Rescue Remedy (in general stress reducer), Walnut (helps with “changes”), Star of Bethlehem (used for trauma). If you use essences…they need to be diluted for your fur folk. Give me a shout and I will send you the simple directions!

5. TELL YOUR PETS WHAT YOU ARE DOING: Final but most important tip. Animals need to be informed of where, when, and what you are doing…from day trips to month long journeys. And, they need to know if they are being boarded, staying at home, who is coming over, etc. You can have your own conversation with them…just talk. Let them know at least a month in advance, then remind them every day for at least a week before you leave. LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE COMING BACK…AND WHEN! You can also hire an animal communicator to tell about your plans and ask what they need to feel comfy about your leaving them for a bit. Works like a charm!

We all need to take a break, visit our friends, have some “downtime”…just make sure your fur folks get the same break by good care, backed up by good information given from you before departure. Then upon your return have some fun letting them help you “unpack”.

Be sure to give me a call if you wish to communicate your plans to your fur loves…would love to be of help to you both for comfort, joy, and good times!

ANIMALS AS “MIRRORS”.

Many of our fur folks are indeed reflecting our own personalities, strengths, weakness, and environments. They are true mirrors to both our daily and deep soul needs and desires.

Personally, I am communicating with more and more animals that are clear reflections of their people. For myself, I had (and still experience!) a wonderful cat named Rocky who was my teacher and mirror for many things. Mirror animals both show and absorb who we are! For instance, I had a tooth issue with some inflamed gum areas that was causing a great deal of discomfort. Rocky cat went in for an acupuncture session and with a general physical exam, it was found that he too had the same area inflamed and had to have the tooth removed. Totally reflecting my “issue” in the physical.

Many animals develop the same “dis-ease” their people have. One very nice client of mine was suffering from a long time bone Cancer…so was her loving cat. And, fur folks reflect and absorb our emotional imbalances too! Calls from people with pets that are not eating, sleeping well, etc. are in some cases taking on their people’s stress and showing their loved ones that “something is not correct”.

More and more I am suggesting to people to very much “see” what their animals are showing us all. We can heal both them and ourselves much quicker when we spot things being reflected back from our fur folks. Their job is to SHOW us who we are and what we are doing.

As we find out what our pets are telling us, it is great to mimic the treatments they need and applying them to our own lives. Flower essence treatment for emotional issues are great to share and match when an animal can benefit from some lovely balancing.

So, look into your pet’s “looking glass” and find love, support, revelations and healing from both their physical and emotional clues they are there to give you!

MESSAGES FROM RAINBOWS.

The winter season is the time for rest, sleep, and for some fur folks it is the time to go into the rainbow of love, to go “home”. Energetically speaking, it is the time for many to complete their time here on earth and go home to total love and being. Winter is the time when crossing over and going home is easy for those fur loves who have given their purpose here with us to the very max.

They DO remain in our hearts and touch and send messages to us from even a bigger space than just sitting beside us. Having the privilege of loving many fur folks who have crossed over “The Rainbow Bridge”…I know well the deep longing to have them here with me in the physical to enjoy, love, and laugh with. I also know that when an animal needs to leave this earth, they are totally accepting of this time and leave with grace the bodies that just “do not work” for them any longer.

Being an animal communicator, I experience both the sorrow of saying our goodbyes as well as the joys of knowing that our fur folks are always living in our hearts…always giving us their love even if we cannot touch or see their twinkly eyes and funny expressions. Believe me, they send their love and messages 24 / 7 from their new home and want us to find happiness and love after they pass.

When someone mentions “closure” to me as they wish to talk with their passed away animals I do understand this need…I just know there must be a better word for saying goodbye since in my knowing there is never really a “closed door” as an animal passes. There is always an open door for them to communicate, love, and guide their people. It is with this purpose that I am jotting some notes down to let you know they are still “talking” to you after they leave this earth.

Unconditional love NEVER leaves; it is always there, always working through us and with us. This is a fur folk’s legacy to us all…unconditional love along with the purpose and teachings that are extremely personal to each and every one of us. There is no “closure”, there is only love…love is always “open”. AND, you can connect up with their love at any time, they continue to speak and support in amazing ways. It is magical!

During this end of the year time, when things do sleep their deep sleep, when there are many finding rainbows to guide them home…think of the love that is always there, knocking at your heart’s door that will knit together broken hearts of their leaving. They have not left; they are just “home” bathed in beautiful rainbows of love!
